Mithilfe der Effilierschere lässt sich das Fell sehr gut ausdünnen, so dass es lockerer und fluffiger fällt. Das gelingt aufgrund der besonderen Scherenzahnung mit eingekerbten Schneidblättern, die, anders wie bei einer normalen Schere, bei einem Schnitt nicht alle Haarsträhnen gleichzeitig erfasst und schneidet. Durch die einseitige Zahnung der Effilierschere wird das Fell stärker ausgedünnt. Auch ein verfilztes Haarkleid kann mit der Effilierschere vorsichtig entfernt werden. Eine regelmäßige Reinigung der Schere mit Wasser und einer antiseptischen Lösung wie Dettol oder Barbicide ist empfehlenswert, um das Bakterienwachstum zu verhindern.
